URGENT!! Brake question...
#1
This one should be easy for you guys. The brake lever on my Scrambler feels sluggish. I Checked the front pads and they are at 80%. The rears were at 50% so I changed them. The level of brake fluid went back up but brakes still feel weak...
Is there something to make it stop better? My front pads have looked the same for a couple months now but changed rears twice.
Is there a screw/bolt to make/adjust the brake lever to make it work better? Can I adjust so the front brakes more?
Thanks
Brian

while squeezing the brake handle (or having someine else do it) loosen the little fitting on your brake calipers that looks kind of like a zerk. Loosen it just a litte, it doesn't take much. When the brake handle hits bottom, tighten the fitting back up before you release the handle. Did you see any little air bubbles? If you did, repeat until the fluid runs clean. Do this on each caliper. Make sure you keep refilling the reservior from time to time so you don't get any air in from the top. When you are done, clean up any fluid you spilled as it tends to make paint peel and can discolor plastic. Water works OK, soapy water better. Put the reservoir cap on first as any water in brake fluid (even a few drops) will contanimate the whole system.

To bleed your Polaris brakes, take your ATV, put it upside down, start the engine (NOT USING the electric starter), then give it like 1/3 throttle (wheels will spin in the air), at that moment, take your wheels off (all 4) without letting off the throttle. Once it's done, do the pow wow dance on your bike (preferably on the skidplate) for at least 4 hours.
Now your brakes are OK...
PS. I can help you do it if you want. Send a mail and I'll give you a hand whenever you want...it's neither long or difficult. If it's still the original brake fluid, it wouldn't be a bad thing changing it for some higher quality...it's world famous that Polaris is CHEAP on details, not as yamaha.

Thaks for the info Zorro! I will go out in the garage right now! Do you think I could replace the brake fluid with soda-pop?
By the way...who's quad was it that didn't make it through that last mud-hole...it just sucked the water in like a straw! LOL
Great ride though...
