Default 04.5 Sportsman 500 HO starting problems

I tried and tried cranking my atv the other day with no success. It was a warm day in the low 80's and the atv had been cranked and ridden about a month before with no signs of problems. After trying for less than 5 minutes of cranking I pulled the spark plug and it was wet so I changed the plug and tried again. Nothing! So I waited about 45 minutes and still nothing! The fuel is turned on and it has a full tank of gas. Anyone experienced this before? Thanks in advance for any replies.

I just pulled the plug again to see if it was getting any fire and I never could see any sparking when pulling the pull cord of course its kinda hard looking at it while pulling it. I also noticed the smell of fuel after pulling it, not strong but I could smell it.

If you are not getting any fire check to see if the plug wire is pinched between the frame and the fuel tank. This was a problem with some 04.5's.....

NBsportsman,

I crawled under my atv and looked and sure enough it was being pinched. I took a screwdriver and pushed it out and it fired right up! Man thanks for the info. You know it really makes me peeode that it was ever put in that spot like that. I intend on contacting my dealer first and if that does no good then I will contact Polaris about it, it still needs to be replaced.

I wonder if anyone else had any luck getting it replaced?

Thanks again for the help!
