Default Secondary Clutch Disasembly

Could anyone possibly give me a discription of how to take apart my secondary clutch to replace the buttons?

What do these buttons look like, and how much do they cost.

The first thing is to get a GOOD set of snap ring pliers. Get a set with long handles to give good leverage........it makes a world of difference.

Pull the secondary off, remove the snap ring on the back. The helix and spring will come right out. The 3 buttons are screwed into the clutch housing. They are easiliy removed and replace. They cost about $3 each. If you replace them before they disintegrate, the helix ramps will not get scored and you can still use the same helix......otherwise a new helix costs about $43. Re-install and pre-tension the spring by rotating the helix counter-clockwise 1/3 turn before pushing it all the way down into place. Have somebody else re-install the snap ring while you hold the assembly in place. Then put the clutch back on the machine.

If you have the proper snap ring pliers it's pretty easy.

HA, when I took mine apart I only had a small set of snap ring pliers laying around and thought they would work. They did but they kept popping off the ring, finally got off. This is one of those times where the proper tool is required.
