tyler all you need to remove is the clutch cover, it takes about 5-10 minutes. You do not need to remove the floorbord. Once you have the cover off just check for shreds, threds, tears, and prety much if your bellt is realy flexible. A good belt will be kinda stiff but it will be loose enough sitting on the to clutches so that you could slide the belt off by hand. This is normal. If you think you need a new belt then get one. You cant go wrong.

Pretty sure you do to have the room to pull the cover off the clutch. My floorboards set right against the cover and it ain't coming off til you take the floorboard off.Instructions in the service manual also states that they have to be removed.Bought a new 05 500 in Nov. traded for 05 700 efi last month and have had the cover off of both and you need to remove the floorboard.

Hey guys, I still havent checked my belt, but I'm pretty sure its worn now. For the first time, I couldnt get the rear tires to spin in high at WOT (only for a second, I know how bad it is!) while trying to hop over a tree in 2wd.
Doesn't polaris have a warrantee on the belt where you can get a free one from your dealer? I'm not in a mood to drop fifty bucks if I don't have to, and thought I'd ask here before I questioned my dealer, even though I mostly trust them.

I am not sure if Polaris gives you one free belt or not. I have heard they do and they I have also heard that they won't. Anyways, do not drop 50 bucks on a pure polaris belt, i found this website where you can get dayco high performance belts for 29.99 plus 6.99 shipping and handling. I ordered one for my prarie and got it in 3 days, and its a dayco high performance belt and works great. here's the website, www.mfgsupply.com, and you do have to take the floorboard off its mounts but not detach it from the front and rear fender if you do not want to. However it gives you more room to work if you take the floorboard off the front and rear fender also.

Tyler, the dealer "may" replace the belt if it's falling apart like an obvious defect but not for wear. If you are replacing the belt you may as well clean the whole PVT enclosure from belt dust, make sure the cover seal is in good shape and clean-up the primary and secondary with brake cleaner. I also clean-up the belt sheaves with very fine grit sandpaper to remove any glazing (belt slip).
This clutch clean-up proceedure along with a new belt will bring the zip back into your quad.
