Default How to check belt?

Did a search, didn't find anything. To check the belt, you remove the pvt cover and check the thickness with a caliper right? I just want to know what I have to do to remove the cover, looks like the floorboard is in the way? How long will it take?

I don't think anything's wrong, but I find myself at full throttle a lot more now. It took WOT for a second to break all four tires loose the other day in low.

It takes about 15 minutes to get the belt off.

Check for rips or tears in the belt or flat spots worn on the side.

These belts last a long time so it may be fine.

I've heard that they run a long time, but I've also heard of them wearing in 100 miles (obviously rider carelessness). But mine has 1300 miles of plowing and mudding on it, and I've smelled burning rubber more than once, so I thought I'd take a look.

So do I have to take off the footwell? Or just take off the cover.

You have 4 bolts in the floorboard. Remove the bolts and you can pull it out enough to get the belt cover off.

Thanks, cornbread, I'll do that this week.

And doesn't every polaris atv have 1 replacement belt from your dealer? Or is that only for when you break one, not normal wear.

or you can take the whole floorboard off by taking off the ones connected to the fenders, alot easier to take the cover off and on, just a thought

Just take out the 4 bolts in the bottem of the floorboards and pull out on the floorboard which should give you enough room to get the belt cover off. I too thought it was a big job but now am sure it could be easily done in the field( although it is better at home with more tools).

It can be done in the field even at night. I keep an extra belt and the tools to replace it with in my tool box on mine at all times.

I have a tow rope. A tow rope is a panacea.
