250 Trailblazer Starter
#1
I just purchased two of these ATVs and one of the starters just spins and will not engauge. Does this sound like I will have to replace the entire starter or are there any secrets I don't know about? Any help would be appreciated.

I would check ebay for rebuild kits before purchasing a whole starter. Much cheaper. If nothing else, you've still got the pull start.

It is the part that when you it the button and you starter spins it catches and turns your motor to start it.

The starter drives are sort of expensive. About $130 or so from a dealer. There are some aftermarket starter drives but they just don't seem to last very long or at least that has been my experience so I reccomend you buy OEM if you need one.
Sometimes if the machine sits for a long time the drive can stick and all you need to do is remove it and free it up with some WD-40 or motor oil.
Also if your starter could not be spinning fast enough to kick the drive in.
This could be from a weak battery, worn starter or bad connections.
One sorce of bad connections that many people overlook is where the cables bolt to the starter relay.
Sometimes you can remove the cables and clean them and your starter and drive works like new again.
