why worry about gas when the JB weld would only be in contact with water/antifreeze in the waterpump?

 

thanks for the input guys... well the guy that is helping me says me has a friend down the road that can weld aluminum... so i think i'm gonna try that... but i have to get the magneto thingy off first cause its close to the whole and heat would probably screw it up... so i'm gonna get that off tonight and have it welded if the guy can do it... if not i'll go get some jb weld.

so how much of a difference would blocking off the starter cause... i heard you can remove the gear from the flywheel then and lighten everything up a little bit... but does it make much difference? i use my quad for trial riding not racing... so would it be worth it to have to pull start every time or not?

conig.. i'm definitely interested in a starter if you have one lying around... i can get new ones from e-bay for about $100... but if you got one that you say is good and i decided to put another one on and not block it off i'll just get it from you. let me know, i'd pm you but i dont know how to on this forum, yet... i'll figure it out later... still new this is my first thread.

 

update:

okay... i got the case welded... friend of a friend did it... and he did a great job... didn't rip me off either... its good to know people who know people... lol

so i got almost all the quad back together... still missing a starter but its on its way... hopefully it'll be here next week.... anyway i got her back together and wanted to test stuff to see if there is anything else needing replacing... it'd suck to take her out and have to drag her back on the first run.... she started on the first but... and man what a pull it is too... compared to before when the compression was bad, i love it!

anyway i let her run until she was warm... but the fan never kicked on... i bridged the wires and and fan kicked on so its okay... i think that the thermostat in the radiator is bad... i unscrewed it with the key on a put it in a bowl of really hot water and it still didn't kick on so i'm gonna go order another one today... i heard they're only like $18. after that and a starter i think my work is done.

my next hope : rick ritter stage one kit.... i've heard they kick royally.... i hope they're right... just gotta save up a little first.... if anybody has other opinions on what might be some fun mods let me know... its always good to get more feedback.
