sp400 cv shaft replacement
#1
I have an 01 sp400 with a broken cv shaft. I'm to the point where it won't pull out from where it slides in to the transmission. I'm out of ideas and need some help. Also I was wondering if the local cv shaft shop would be able to fix it or am I going to have to dish out the $300 and buy me a new one?? Any info is much appreciated! Thanks!!

Hi,
On the 04 Sportsman 400 the inner yoke is held in with a "c" clip. Just pry the yoke away from the differential and it should compress and slide right out. Sometimes you need to rotate the axle and tap on the yoke lighly to get the clip to center itself. PM me if you need and pointers I know all about these things.
Thanks,
Danny

Hey Danny,
I've got the cv shaft out now and am kind of confused. The reason I thought it was broke was because of the loud clicking noise it was making from the rear and then upon checking it out the inner cv boot was tore open so I just assumed it was the cv shaft. The cv shaft itslelf looks good with no obvious damage. Should I take it somewhere and have them check it out or should I just buy a new boot kit and slap it back in there? Could it be something else??? Thanks for the pointers you gave me before and any info you give now is much appreciated. Thanks

Hi Jeremy,
If your getting a clicking sound then your inner cv joint probably has a bad cage. I would recommend giving it a go yourself since it's not that hard of a job and you'll save a bunch of money and learn something at the same time. PM me and I can walk you through the process.
Thanks,
Danny
