2004 Carborated vs. 2005 EFI
I am about to buy a Polaris 700. I can't decide between the 2004 Carborated 700, and the 700 EFI. I live in Alabama and the elevation factor shouldn't come into play. I am also price conscious. I can get into a 2004 700 Carb for 5K (won't have to pay tax), or could buy the 2005 EFI for $6750 plus tax, title...etc.
Is there really a dramatic difference between these two platforms? If so what are they? Are the differences worth the price differential?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

teh 2005 was the complete resdesign of the sportsman platform. i presume you've seen it if your looking at buying one
the front suspention was widend and more travle added with different struts, PXT tires the 4x4 hubs were moved to the differential off the wheel for safty reasons. tighter turning.
it all adds up, if you can afford to get the 05, do it, you wont be dissapointed

Hey, Maddog31.
My honest opinion is, spend the extra cash and get the 05 EFI. You will not regret it. I have an 05 700 EFI, and an 04 600 (carbed, obviously), and comparison between the two is pointless. Everything about the 05 is improved over the 04. Naturally there would be a slight difference in power between the 600 and 700, but I was totally surprised by the night and day difference between these two machines. The fuel injection coupled with the improved suspension geometry on the 05 provides performance that can only be described as SMOOTH. Seamless, instant throttle response and a ride quality beyond plush even by Sportsman standards. Plus with the 05 you get the new storage compartments, VASTLY improved headlights, back-up lights, and the lock and ride attachment capability with the racks. My 04 600 came with bias-ply Goodyear Rawhides which were ok, but the 05s come with the PXT Radial, which is hands down the best stock tire on the market. Then to mention the obvious, your 05 will also come with a warranty which to me certainly carries some value. Don't get me wrong, I really like my 600 as well, and it definitely puts lots of other machines to shame, but with the 05 Sportsmans, Polaris has absolutely made a good thing alot better.
