400sp or 500sp

I am looking at my first 4 wheeler and I'm not sure which to buy. I'm looking at the 400 sp and the 500 sp. I'm not a experienced rider just looking for the most practical bike for hunting and some trail riding. Please help me decide which to get. I got the dealer down to 5200 on the the 400 and 6000.00 on the 500.

Driven both. I definently suggest you go with the 500. Alot more poower, pop, and top end. I drove an 04' sp400 and i topped it out at about 47 on tar. The 500's go well over 50mph. Both are great quads though.

not only do you get more power from the 500 but you also get 26" tires versus 25's on the 400 and the 500 comes with an engine brake if you can afford the 500 go for it heck get the 800 if you can if you get the small one you might spend the next couple of years kicking yourself for it go as big as you can afford dont short change yourself....

Get the dealer to let you ride them. The difference will be clear right away, see if it seems worth it to you. I have both, and the 500 is much more powerful. But the 400 can pull/tow just as well. Speed isnt my thing, so the 400 is fine.
The 500 is a great bike, but so is the 400. If it were me, I'd probably get the 400 and add a winch, tires, and bumpers. All for about the same as a 500.
But ride them both, or find some buddy's to ride.

I would also suggest going as big as you can afford. All of the Sportsmans are exceptionally easy to drive. But, you will find yourself want for a little more power even if you don't ride like a nut. You may start to want a little more zip while riding up a hill or pulling a trailer. I would definitely get something bigger than the 400 though. We had an 05 and traded within a month for the 700EFI.
I have seen 700 twins for a little over $5700 in Chatanooga which may be worth the drive from Virginia.

Is that $6,000 before or after tax, setup and delivery? If it is before, I think you can get the dealer to give you a better price - they need to move the 05's to make room for the 06's. If its 6,000 after then I think its a decent price.
I got my dealer to give me my 05SP500HO for 5699+ So it was around $6000 once it was all said and done.
I think that the $300 difference is worth it- buy the 500, you wont be dissapointed.
There's a reason its the worlds best selling ATV.
