In are riding group we have two grizzlys one with 26 " and another with 27" tires my stock sp can go more places then theycan and i have had alot less trouble with it then there yamahas yes i have overheated it and so have they but for the amount of miles on there machines they shure have spent more keeping them running. Since i put on my 26" murunners i usually end up pulling them out They have no clearence and that is were the sp is god and until there is somthing out there it will remain god.

fourlix,
I decided to get the HO because I seriously doubt that the Scrambler will hold up to the types of riding that I do. With a normally proportioned person, I'd say that the Scram would be fine. I'm 6'2" and weigh 290 or so. I've already had to have the tranny and rear brake caliper mount replaced under warranty.
I have a 175 lb buddy who owns a 99 SP500. One day while we were riding together, we swapped rides. I noticed that the SP just worked better for me. In situations where the Scrambler struggled with me on it, Joe was able to breeze through.
I still say that if you like all around riding, including blasting up the dunes, and can only have one quad, the SC 500 4x4 is it. The SP doesn't do nearly as well in the steep and loose sand as the Scrambler. Joe has the 99 Sportsman, and a 2000 SC400 2x4. This is the perfect setup. I wish I could do this, but I need to get something for my son to ride, worse than I need two for myself.

I'm happy 500sp owner, but I think that to compare the two machines is hard so many things to take into concideration. The dealer setup, the riders ability, you can take the best mnachine in the world and put **** poor rider on it and it'll have poor showing.I'm sure there are many guy's that are happy with thier GRIZ and do some great stuff with them. The 500SP fits my needs and does great job for me.CM
