Default Unable to pull start after putting in new cam

I recently had a bad cam and exaust rocker on my polaris 500. I replaced the cam and the exaust rocker and what happens now is if I go to start it with the pull rope it pulls about half the distance of the rope and then it's like it "locks" up. It's almost impossible to get it past that point on the rope. Any ideas?

Thanks, Kevin

Do you mean it will start with the starter but not the rope?

With a fully charged battery it is able to start but works at it. It "acts" like the compression is so high it is hard to turn over.

Did your forget or incorectly install the little compression release thing on the cam?

It has been a while since I did this because if you change the oil reguarly and use good synthetic oil cam problems are rare.

I had to replace the cam on my 2000 scrambler and when i put it in i didn't put the spring in the decompresser right.it was hard to start with starter and would pick the side of the quad up with the pull cord. so just take the cover off the end of cam left hand side i think you got to take thermostat housing off to get at it .easy to fix.william

As I said it has been a long time since I did this but I do remember if the spring is not right the automatic compression release will not work.

Seems like I did this screw up on the first one I did years ago.
