Default Collet Communicators

Seems like we have tried so many different ways to communicate with each other (wife and I). We have tried FRS radios, little watch type radios, different head sets, throat mikes... we never could get consistant results with the vox. Finally broke down and bought a couple of Collet Platinum 900s. This things really work great. The unit is a great combination of mike, vox and transceiver. The unit velcros on to the side of the helmet and has a flexible mike boom. The microphone is very directional and picks up no wind noise nor quad noise. The two ear phones mount inside the helmet, so you don't have those pesky little earphones stuck in your ear.

As far as distance, it seemed to work pretty much the same distance as the Motorola FRS radios that we had. However, I noticed that they worked poorly if there was a 100 foot high dune between myself and my wife. On the other hand, our FRS radios didn't work any better with the same dune between us.

I like the fact that these units are completely sealed and water proof because we are often in the rain. Since we also ride sleds, the groomer warning is a great touch. My wife is now happy because she has someone to talk to as she rides

As long as it could keep the sand out they sound pretty good.

I would be a little scared to have VOX on me while riding. Then everyone could hear my profanity as I roll down a 100ft dune praying 1st gear does its thing. LOL

How much did they run you? I got a little pair of motorola's and some headsets with a VOX setup on them. Havent tried it yet while surfing though.

LOL, good point hudson4269... I guess I need to watch what I say in those unexpected situations!!

I got the communicators directly from Collet at $169 a pop. They are expensive, but I am tired of trying to get a good communication scheme working. I think I have spent almost as much playing around with all the other stuff!! I think I would have gotten the SnoFone instead of the 900, but the SnoFone is not yet shipping.

My wife likes the idea of connecting an MP3 player to the audio input on the 900. The SnoFone doesn't have that. So the wife pretty much sealed the deal.

I thought about bringing my mp3 player but I know sand is the devil out there so I only brought my phone and that even got sand in it while in my pocket. I think next time I will bring a real camera and put it in a ziploc.

Camera phones dont do the dunes justice.

LOL, I carry all my stuff in the wife's SEALED storeage bag on the back of her quad. It keeps out everything.. dust.. sand.. rain.. It seems the only way I can keep anything clean. And you're right, it seems camera phones just don't get very good pics. We carry a camera in her bag, but it seems that we can never get pictures that capture our rides quite good enough.

LOL, I thought the same thing. The SnoFone was my first choice but when I called to order them, the operator said they will not ship until for another month. I was going to wait.. talked to the WU and she suggested that we just order the 900. She figures she can hook an MP3 player up. But she insisted on black units instead of silver. I still need to try out the cell phone connection and the MP3 player. Not sure how good the fidelity will be with the speakers.
