My brother has a 96 sportsman 500, yesterday we were ridding and he lost the 4x4 in low and hi but still works in reverse, We think it is the trans switch, on the 96 it is up on the gear shifter. has anyone ever worked on this. can you clean them or do you have to replace the switch? Thanks for any help

 

I had a similiar problem if not the same but anyway my trans switch got messed up for some reason. I wasn't about to spend the dollars for a new switch as they are expensive so I got the soldering gun and did some rewiring. My reverse light dosen't work anymore but that's something that doesn't bother me. Haven't had any problems since.
