Default Polaris in the forrest

Hi All!

I am considering buying a Polaris Sportsman. Either the 700 carb, or the 500 h.o. Model 2003 or newer.

I will use it to take out the trees when I am logging. I wonder if I really need those extras as expensive skid plates and A-arm protections? Arn't the polaris machines protected and though enough from stock?

I live in Sweden, so things is really expensive here. A used Polaris 700 carb from 2003 cost about 7,500 $ here! And things come later here... still I have not seen anything about the new 06 models on the polaris swedish homepage! Last updated in june!

Thanks,

Welcome.

Both machines have plenty of power for the job.

If your driving through branches and anything that could hit the boot from the bottom i would get the extra protection. Its not needed if your just on two tracks or roads.

In stock form they are not protected from the bottom of the a-arms or to the inner front and rear.

if you live in sweeden i would reccomend trying to find a 700 EFI if you could. as far as protection, unless your driving over alot of pointy rocks or alot of thick brush, you dont need extra skids
