Default SP 800 MODS

Ok sports fans this is my first post. First let me say this site is great stated coming here about 8 months ago when I was trying to decide which ATV to buy. Based largly on the reviews and feedback by you guys I decided on the 800. To date I havent had any trouble with my bike 300 miles and about 25 hrs or so. As you can see from my short list of mods I have been playing a little bit. Thought I would give you some feedback. I upgraded the front springs which was sagging down about 3.5 inches. With the MV springs it only saggs about 1.5 inches much better. As for the other upgrades I did them all at once right after my first 20 hr break in service. Air filter, plugs and power commander it wasn't a huge boost in power but you can feel the difference. Engine runs smoother helped to reduce that engine knock and accelerates faster. No real gain on top end speed last wide open run topped out at 69 mph by GPS. Helped fuel milage a little up to 11-12 mpg from 8-10 mpg still not great but better. Install on the power commander was a snap real easy. The plugs are a different matter they took longer than the dynojet. The left plug is almost impossible to get to with your fingers let alone a ratchet. Anyway I wont go on and on if anyone wants more info on those items ask away I'll share what I know. Now for my question the next project is tires I think I have decided on the ITP mulite XTR my problem is size. I want to go bigger but I don't want to hit fenders of lift anything. Will 27x10 fronts and 27x12 rears fit thats an inch taller and an inch wider.

that'll fit, i think you might need to get a set of wheel spacers though, which are a real easy install

I have Bi and Tri Claws on Type 6 rims on my 800 and there is no problem whatsoever. No spacers needed. My friends run Mudlites and i may be biased but i know the Claws handle mud and junk a heck of a lot better. And the ride isn't bad either on the smooth stuff.

polaris owner i have a set of 27"x10x12 gators on the front of my 2006 800 sportsman and 27x 12x12 on the rear if you keep at least 4 pounds of air in the tires you won't need spacers.i bought the highlifter 1.5" should of just went with the 1" lots of clearance.i put the spacers on because i do atv pulls and run around 2 pounds of air without spacers on the front it would rub spindel.i have 103 miles on it and i'm getting 13-15 miles to the gallon ever since i got it it was getting that. Is the powercommander worth the money?i've been thinking of getting one but just haven't decieded.william

as far as more performance, Hot Seat Performance (www.hotseatperformance.com) has a new Cam out for the 800 that REALLY wakes it up, and they have a new true dual exhuast coming out soon, with that being said, a new cam, exhaust and intake, you can really work the EFI system with that power commander

Hmmm, Power Commander looks interesting. Where did you get it and how much did you pay? If you want some unique ideas for how to mod your new 800 check out this site

The “Power Commander” sounds interesting. Where do you get one?

OK power commander I got trough parts canada (at my local polaris dealer). Cost was about 350.00 canadian if I remember right I bought a bunch of stuff at once. In the states its called Parts unlimited. You can install it yourself in about 1.5 to 2 hours. Like I said in the original post no huge pwer gain but you do notice it. If you look on the dynojet website you'll see most of the changes to the fuel map are in the mid range and that where I can feel the difference. Now it pulls hard off the line and doesn't stop pulling until you hit 55mph then it tappers off a bit. Trying to get the tires to hook is the real problem. I feel the real benifit to you power commander is now you have direct control over the EFI so as I continue to modify (true dual exhaust from hot seat is next) I can remap the fuel curve as I go. Also I have not adjusted the clutch yet at all so there might be some unrelized horsepower there allready. My mechanical experiance is automotive so these PVT's are new and somewhat of a black art to me. Floodrunner thanks for the link I have had two temprature gauges on order for awhile now. Now back to these tires I want to know how big a tire I can put on the bike without lifting it or using spacers. Wildwilly you talking about a 1" inch lift I don't want to get into that. Spacers seem mickey mouse to me. Can't you buy rims with a positive offset to adjust for your wider tires? Anyway if you know what size I can get away with without lifting or rubbing fenders please let me know. Chris

Polaris owner,

I was curious what the part # is for the spark plugs. I am going to try and order them online. Thanks
