Default OIL CHANGE

Maybe someone can answer a question for me since where on the subject of oil. 2 years ago when I bought my TB250. I bought a white gallon jug with a flex nozzle spout of Polaris premium 2 cycle lubricant. No where on the container does it say that it is synthetic. It is blue in color. Then last year I bought a quart of blue 2 cycle Polaris oil and it clearly says that it is synthetic. I was wanting to know if the first gallon of blue 2 cycle polaris oil that I bought was synthetic, even though it doesnt say so on the container. And do you know if when it was new from factory if it was given synthetic oil. Just one of those things that make you go hum.

The older Polaris 2 cycle oil in the white gallon cans was NOT synthetic.

Thats what I thought. I've been using it for my gas/oil mix in the weedeater and leaf blower. Man that gallon jug last a long time.

I went on a pretty lengthly search today to find Mobil1 0-40wt
The book for my 05 500HO is specific in stating the oil should be API "S H" None of the M1 /0-40 I could find had this designation.

What do ya think?

I would not worry about having 0-40 unless you ride in sub zero temps. I do know it gets cold in North Dakota and if you ride in such temps then 0-40 may be what you need. Mobile One synthetic is good oil and it will work fine in your ATV.

In Ky where I live normal temps run from the teens to about 95. 5w50 is perfect for Ky weather.

CB2,

I'm sayin I cant find Mobil1 0-40 with an SH rating.

Guy's on other sites are using the M1 0-40 but they do not indicate it has the manuacturers recomended rating.

Thanks CB2.

I think the M1 0w40 don't have the SH designation (or the starburst symbol) because of the weight itself (0w40). Not SAE approved for automobiles.

The "SH" is a rating basically for petro based oil. You need synthetic in your Polaris but a "SH" rated conventional oil will work IF you don't have synthetic.

Any good name brand synthetic oil will be better than any SH oil no matter if it has the SH rating or not.

All these numbers are getting me confused. LOL

RECAP

So PS-4 is a full synthetic, right? What weight is it so I know where I stand?

And Castrol and Mobile both make good full synthetic oils and living in arizona I could go for a 5w50 or so?
