Thanks guys, those are some needed improvments - especially if they fixed the front end.
Hey Cutty, there is no reason not to disable it. I have disabled mine and don't know how I lived with it so long!

So how did you disable it? Did you just take the spring off and wire it or something like that?

Why would you disable the shifter lock? I know its annoying when you're off the quad, but wouldn't it make it hard to find reverse and low? How would you rock the quad out when you are stuck -- you'd keep ending up in High and park?

Are the 06's designed differently so you can find low and reverse?

high and park have a higher notch to get through, so unless your gear jammin, shouldent have a problem

Are you referring to the 06's, or past models? Because my 04 and 05 have a notch in between each gear, but it is still very difficult to get into low when I have my foot on the brake.

Spyder,

Where did you get the info on the differences between the 05 and 06 SP800's. I am interested in finding out if the modifications to the 06 that was aimed at resolving the melting issues actually accomplished that and if those pieces will fit the 05

ive picked it up over the months on this forum and through my dealer, as far as i know the 06 plastics will fit an 05, just because the only difference is the wider clearence around the pipe.

If anyone gets the chance to talk to their dealer or have already had this determined, I would like to know if the 800 06 rear cab will fit the 05 because if it's redesigned to avoid the melting problem I want the 06 cab for the replacement on mine. Met with my dealer and the 06 is listed as a different part number (of course) with no notation of compatibility with an 05 swap but the dealer is checking with Polaris. I told them I wasn't going to go for an 05 replacement and be back in for the same problem in a week. I also told the dealer I wanted Polaris to Specifically delineate what their permanent remedy is going to be if the 06 redesigned, supposedly, cab cannot be used. Any thoughts, experiences, or dealer information would be helpful. Thanks.

The plastic from 05 will fit 06. If you go to Polaris parts page and bring up both the 05 and 06 SP800 and look at the camo plastic, both years have the same part numbers. So if the came plastic fits, then all the rest should. The black plastic does have different numbers, but it could be a different style black compared to 05, so thus the different numbers.
