Default 2001 Sportsman Boot How too?

I have 500 sportsman I need to change the boot. I have the hub apart and off the only thing I havent got apart or off is the shaft and cv knuckle. There for I cannot get the boot on. Whats the next step I cant pull the shaft out of the gear housing(Diff) It will not budge.
I cannot see any kinda clip or anything on the cv knuckle. Do I need to take the U joints apart?

Ok is it the front shaft or the rear shaft? The front shaft will come out of the diff by pulling or useing a slide hammer but the rear shaft has a clip on the shaft twards the diff against the cv. You have to squeeze the clip together and pull the shaft out from the inner cv. It needs to be real clean so you can see it.

Use a larger slide hammer.

There is a tension clip in the inside of the hub. If you give it a sharp tug it will pop off. The pressure applied when tugging on the hub will compress the spring and allow the hub to slip off the splined shaft. Don't be afraid to really wind up on it, it takes quite a bit of pressure to get it off. I had the same problem with mine untill I bought the service manual and it told me how to disassemble it. Good Luck
