2002 Trailblazer rebuild
I have a 2002 Trailblazer it lost compression and I am getting ready to rebuild the motor puting a new piston and rings in it. I have had poeple tell me to port the head to get more power my girlfriend rides it the most she does alot of trail riding and few times a year at the dunes in OK . can anyone give me some advise on what to do with this bike to get the most power from it and if porting the head is worth the money.
Thanks

First of all you dont port the head on 2strokes you port the cylinder. And yes porting the cylinder gives you a very noticable incress in power but if you dont have a pipe and clutch kit you are waisting your time porting it.If you really want it to run good give Rick Ritter a call and ask about his stage 1 kit and porting he can even bore it and get you a new piston wher when you get your parts back it is ready to put together.

sorry for being such a pain on the question but FLWFLH you said not to bore any bigger than you need to. can i ask why? I have delt with alot with car motors and the thing to do is to bore bigger for more power but with that you have to have the other componnets to make it produce the power you want to achieve. Is that why you say no to bore bigger unless you need it? is all the other componnets you will need to produce the power

The reason you do not want to bore bigger than you have too is becaust 2 strokes have to be rebuilt more often than a 4 stroke. A bigger bore will not give you any noticeable power without alot of other mods. If you bore too big then the next time you have to rebuild you will have to get a new sleeve because there is nothing left to bore. Just do a small bore and your motor will have a long life. Other than getting a performance pipe for the 250 porting will give you the biggest increase in power. You cant go wrong with a good port job. Let someone that knows what they are doing do the port job or you can find yourself with bad performance. I recommend Rick Ritter for any of your motor work. You can send the jug off to him and he can do the work and get you the right wiseco pisaton. This way you will have no trouble once back together. Let Rick bore the jug, port the jug and give you the right piston. The 250 can be a very quick atv with the right mods. I had one that would beat stock and slightly moded 400's. Good Luck!
