I believe that something is binding in the clutches and not allowing it to upshift all the way. Correct me if i'm wrong, but it should be running about 60mph at 6000 rpm's. What is your opinions?
That doesnt sound right at 6000 RPMS at 40 mph

i can only get up to 53-55 but this is on a gravel road. my cousins 02 700 card and 97 500 do about the samething. so i think a paved road it will do about 60.
And now i am going to call the dealer to get my fan fixed to. some times it come on by itself and sometime i have to turn it off and back on for it to come on

Jayblazer and Daman55

I took it out today on a snowy gravel road and it did 25 mph at about 4800 rpm's and top speed was about 50, so on a hard gravel road I think I would be close to 53 to 55. Does that sound about right to guys. Thanks for your posts.

Could do me a favor and look in your owners manual and tell me what the gear reduction ratio is in high, low and reverse because the dealer thought they may have changed the gearing. My ratio is 10.49/1 in high, low is 23.91/1, reverse is 16.30/1. The gear reduction ratio on my 700 efi was like 2.91/1 in high, so their is a big difference in gearing from the 700 to the 500. Thanks for your posts.

Just curious, but does your 500efi sound like the valves tick a little when the rpm's get to about 4800 to about 5500 rpm's. If I hit the throttle harder the ticking noise goes away. I notice that mine does it and was wondering if it was normal. I'm just used to my 700efi, I know each machine has it sounds and querks.

To lower your rpm closer to your 700 was, just put heavier ramp, i've done thant on my 700 carb to lower the rpm, it work's fine for me...

But don't go to far, you would lose to much on start...

Thanks for your reply. I did a little investigating and found out that Polaris changed the gear reduction ratio in high, low and reverse. In 2004 the 500HO was around 3.34/1 in high and in 05 and 06 they changed it to 10.49/1 in high, so I think that would be the difference between the 700 and 500 because the 05 700eif is about 2.89/1. There has been reports from Polaris500HO4x4 that he gets about 61mph and the 05 500 get about 53 to 55. I think that the gearing is that much differen't and thats why we aren't getting the topend like the 04's. I'm not sure it would make much of a difference if I put in heavier ramps.

just browsing, but my 04 700 ticks pretty good at high RPM on the trail, sounds worse with helmet on.not so much when I am wheeling in the back yard in a mud hole How do I get more top speed out of my 700 with mods I have to it? is it possible? now I can get 54-57mph at about 5800 on hard gravel, before clutch and tires about 63 65 mph. Not a huge difference but now my x Bro in law w/ 500 can keep up and xfather in law Grizz can slowly pass me .I still kill em in the mud and off the line.
