Default Shiming front springs

Hi all. I am new to this and wondering if anyone can help me. I have a 05 500 HO 4x4. I really like it. The problem is the springs are starting to loosen up. I was trying to put a shim under the spring and in the process it looks like the front axle came apart inside the axle boot. Anyone have ideas on this? did I break the joint?

you didnt break the joint. you just pulled the hub of the locking ring on the axle shaft. if you remove the large spring on the axle boot and pull the boot back the hub will come right off in your hands. just line up the splines and hit it with a rubber mallet to seat it.then reinstall your strut.
