Has anyone tried mounting one of the $90 winches from Sam's Club on a Scrambler?

You can get a winch for about $50 from harbour freight. It is a 2000# winch. I have one on my Trail Boss and it works great.

i dont have any experience with the walmart or harbor freight winches. but at that price, they are affordable enuf to replace if they crap out. id say go for it.

the warn 1.5 is also affordable (as far as warn winches go) at just over $200. im sure diggin mine.

I assume a winch that inexpensive may be disposable, but probably good enough to get me out of a tight spot or two.

I haven't played with matching the mounting plate that comes with the winch to the front end of the Scrambler. I assume the Warn winch came with a model-specific mount.

That's a good looking installation of that winch on your quad. I had been thinking in terms of mounting to the front bumper somehow, but that is obviously a better mount. Did you have to do a lot of mods to the quad (other than the hole in the hood)? I don't suppose you took any pictures of that installation before you put the plastic back on.

With your winch that way how do you free spool? It looks cool but it looks like you cant work the winch the way it was intended.

so far i have just powered it out. its still pretty new.i do have a slit in the plastics between the hood and fender, where i just pop my knife in and flip the switch. but everytime i try to free spool it, it turns itself into a birdnest. so, i need to either really wind it under a good load, and get it to stretch out a bit,or just replace it with synthetic amsteel rope. (which im prolly gonna do anyways)

so far it has worked great.

I would highly recommend the amsteel blue. I just got some and it is awsome. There is a link here somewhere where you can get it pretty cheap.
