Default 500 Scrambler transmission question..

I just bought a "2000' 500 Scrambler and noticed there is a "clunking" noise coming from the rear gearcase when I'm giving it gas. I checked the gear oil level and it was allmost bone dry ,it took allmost 20oz to fill it. after filling the gear case it did not leak ANY WEAR???. it's at the shop wright now and I'm very nervous about the repair bill. the machanic told me he could not give me a price untill he looked in the trany.. About how long does it take for a shop to pull a trany out and put it back in this machine??? [not including parts] Thanks alot!!

Default 500 Scrambler transmission question..

is it a 4x4 tranny?

mine was making that sound in reverse. once i got it apart, the internal drive chains had worn and stretched, and were skipping ove the teeth of their respective sprockets. i just replaced the chains and put it all back together , and its all good!

dunno how long a shop will take, but it took me a good weekend total time to pull, disassemble, repair, and install my 4x4 tranny. (not including waiting for parts)

let us know how bad they ding you.

X
