oil change on 500
#1
Hi, I'm embarrassed to mention that my first oil change on 2001 Sportsman 500 HO didn't go well. Per manual I was told to remove the fitting plug to clean the fitting screen after draining the oil and reinstall the drain plug, I unscrewed the big Bajo bolt and the banjo tube was attached to the bolt and is bent while unscrewing. So I'll have to replace the Banjo Intake tube on it. Gee, it's kind of hassle doing that merely to do the oil change and filter. Should I have done that to remove and clean the fitting screen? IT's my first ATV, and I don't recall doing that on my vehicles. Do you guys do that as well?
Thanks for any replies.
BY the way, I purchased this first ATV last week and am anxious to familiarize myself on this Polaris.

First, welcome to the forums, and second, I dont remove the screen(banjo fitting) on my 2001 500. I did when I first got it, then I noticed that it was always clean, so I stopped removing it. I have a 500 and 700 and I dont realize what a good machine the 500 is(because I ride the 700 and my wife rides the 500)until I get on it to move it or load it. It would take alot more money than what it is worth for me to sell my 500!
