Trail Boss chain/transmission problem
#1
I have a '92 Trail Boss 250 with the PVT transmission. Lately, when I get on the throttle, the transmission/chain sometimes slips while making a grinding noise. The noise sounds exactly like someone trying to put a manual transmission car in gear without using the clutch. It will continue doing this until I apply the brake and let it idle down. It comes and goes--sometimes I can drive it hard with no problems, other times it will barely move. But it has been getting much worse lately.
What is the most likely cause of the problem? I would like to adjust the chain tension (it does appear to be quite loose), but I don't see any obvious way to do so.

Check the drive sprokets if they are ok then it is the internal chain is jumping on the sprokets get it fixed before the chain breaks and ***** up and destroys the whole tranny(it will in time).

That is correct. Fix it NOW and all you will have to buy is a trans chain.
And after you get it fixed use a good synthetic motor oil such as Castrol Syntec 5w50 in your trans and you will not have any more chain problems.

Thanks for the help. The drive sprockets look fine and the noise sounds like it's coming from inside the tranny, so the internal chain problem makes sense. Could you recommend any online stores to buy it, and is it difficult to replace?
