Bigger Tires for the ATP
Sorry for double posting, but I posted this over on the drivetrain, tires and wheels forum and no one has touched it.
I've a 2004 Polaris ATP 500 HO. I am thinking what I really need is some bigger meats for this thing. I want all the tire I can put under it but I am concerned about overstressing the driveline since I am thinking about Interco Vampires which are evidently very heavy tires. Power isn't really a problem since I do mostly trailriding and work around the yard I don't care if they compromise the top speed some and there's low range on the tranny for when I really need some grunt and the 500 HO is a fairly powerful engine anyway. What I am worried about is putting too much stress on the driveline components and breaking crap. Clearance wise I believe I can go up 27' tires without rubing, but again I don't want the front diff grenading because of stress. Not too worried about the back since the rear diff looks like it's using about a 7 1/2 or 8 inch ring gear.
My understanding is that the driveline is pretty similar to the 04-041/2 Sportsman 500 HO.
What' been your experience here with regards to big heavy tires and breaking parts.
Thanks
