Default winch replacement

I have never posted but I have been reading for months and the info is always great

I have a 2006 800EFI w/the warn 2.5ci.
The winch was killed recently...will a 3.0xt mount right on or will I need a new kit (wiring etc)? The dealer put the last one on and I am hoping since this is just a replacement it will be much easier than installing a winch from scratch.
I am going to send the old winch to warn but I want to put one on when I take this one off. I don;t think I will be able to use the plow with a dead winch!
Thanks in advance
Don

Your machine is prewired from the factory for a Polaris Warn Winch Kit. This is a really slick system that makes installation a breeze and improves the reliability of the winch wiring by A LOT. It’s my understanding that a 3.0 has the same bolt pattern similar physical dimensions (drum is more centered) so it will mount right up. BUT you’ll need to get the Polaris 3.0 Warn Winch Kit that comes with the wiring to match what’s already on your machine. If you just get a Warn 3.0 winch, to install it you’ll have to cut into the factory wiring. Installation will be more difficult and less reliable. You can buy the Polaris kit from the dealer or you may be able to find a better deal on Ebay.

If you use your winch to raise and lower the snow blade you’re going to trash the first four feet of your winch rope in a short period of time. When we were doing this we’d replace the 50’ rope with an 8’ piece for the winter months then throw it away at the season’s end, put the 50’ back on for the riding season.

OBTW, Welcome to the forum!

Default winch replacement

Thanks for your help.

I was hoping I did not need a new winch kit and that i could use all the existing wiring...
I think this is a special edition and it may not have a polaris version if that makes sense.

I am not sure but I am hoping I can avioid the dealer's labor charges. The same dealer thought about $350 for a break in service was fair bacause the "valves have to be adjusted." I may be crazy but I am not aware of this being necessary on a 2006 800 EFI. It has 30 hours and about 80 miles on it.
Does anyone know about this or have you put on the warn 3.0XT winch? it is the bright red one.
Thanks again!

Maybe someone on here knows if the solenoids are the same for the 2.5 and the 3.0. If they are, you’re right, you could just buy any 3.0 Warn, unbolt your 2.5 for service, bolt on the 3.0 and hook up the two wires and you’d be good to go. A Warn dealer would be able to tell you if there’s a difference in the solenoids.

I don’t know anyone who has had their valves adjusted on a Polaris Twin of any size, and I sure don’t know anyone who has paid $350 for the service. Find another dealer.

I’m not saying a valve adjustment is a bad idea but not after 80 miles (in 30 hours? That’s an average of 2.6 miles per hour on a machine that screams!)

I was also surprised when I noticed the miles vs hours. Maybe I am warming it up too long for short rides - that really wouldn't explain much of it though. It gets warmed up for 5 -10 minutes when cold for a trip up the 1000 ft driveway. it also gets alot of very slow bashing on rocks, trees and tough terrain. It also sees some duty as a submarine etc. It guess I am doing my best to break it. The day we broke the winch it sunk in pudding type mud sideways. Burnt the winch motor then snapped the winch cable. Two 700s together couldn't pull it out. It took an F150 pulling hard in low. I blew out the CV joint and driveshaft before we got it out so I had some gorilla axles put on. I love the machine though and I am glad I got that instead of the BRP 800. After all the reading about both machines after I sat on both it was no contest. The Polaris 800 is a beast !
Thanks again for your help.

holy sh.t, i thought i was hard on my machine. lol you take the cake in that department if you've done all that in 80 miles. and the 30. and 2.5 are the same hook up w/ the same solenoid.
