I'm looking to add a new quad to family for the wife and kids...probably the Hawkeye. However, I have horror stories relating to Polaris reliability and dealer support.

What's your opinion, as avid owners of this brand? Are Polaris quads unreliable?

Thanks!
Better buy a extended warranty.

IMO, you are susceptible to problems no matter what brand you buy. I would not consider Polaris quads unreliable.

A lot depends on the dealer too, My riding buds have Polaris's and are very Good machines, I have a grizz, Anything can happen to any of them, None of us had had any problems so far, I only wish mine had EFI, Most of our riding is between 3, & 7,000 ft. elevation, something to think about,, I'm about to rejet mine,

Good idea, if you don't know how to maintain a vehicle.

I agree with most, the dealer will play a key role just like any other brand. And on a side not, anything less then 5000miles on a sportsman is not worth talking about. That is low mileage around here for a sportsman. two sportsmans over here with over 10000miles on them. List of problems range from both speedometers,2 new clutches in total, and changed all suspension bushing once on the 01. and other little owner cause problems.

Default Polaris Reliability???

97 Sportsman 500 with over 5k on the clock.

FINALLY rebuilt the hubs this winter and replaced a warped belt cover. Needs a tie rod end and thats about it.

Been an EXTREMELY reliable machine for me and I've had it since new. This is the first belt I've replaced and the first time I've been in the hubs.

You can't go wrong with a Polaris as long as your willing to do the maintance on them. I replace my oil 2 times a year. Fall and spring. Tires as needed and hose it off once in awhile.

2003 TB250 and not a lick of problems.
2005 SP90. Horn stopped working (fixed in 1 day) and oil light sensor located to high, so I have to add oil after each ride to keep the light from flashing. No big...... Both runs great. Very pleased.

Hello bombaman.. We have twin 2004 Trailblazers. For two years we have ridden. I use one in the winter to plow. In the summer, we often ride the dunes. Ridding dunes is quite stressful on the quads as they are often wide open. We have yet to have any problems. And we are very happy with the quads.

2000 Sportsman 500 with 141 hrs/1200 miles. Bought used but have all records since new. Annual oil/filter/air filter changes and lubes by dealer. Replaced battery. No major mods to engine, suspension, etc....runs excellent. I, too bought a Polaris based on research and the excellent luck I had with their snowmobiles back in the 80's and 90's.

The only thing worse than my local Polaris dealership is the local Yamaha/Suzuki/Arctic Cat dealer. Fortunately there is an excellent Polaris/Honda/Yamaha/Bombardier dealer about 60 miles away. (BTW, 60 miles is nothing for where I live...it's actually the next town over). I think dealership quality is going to be very individualized and not just related to brand.
