my 04.5 has been a great machine. had the carb update, (Polaris bulletin), installed to improve cold weather performance and it runs great in all temps. starts consistantly with only one rev of the motor, incredible traction, great pulling machine with lots of low end. gets up and goes if you want and is fairly sporty for such a heavy beast. strengths imo are the traction, comfort and how easy it is to operate. weaknesses are poor fuel economy and vibrations from motor.

you had to ask... if you must know, I have yet to get into the double digits! it's usually around 7 mpg, yup, believe it. however, I use the machine primarily for farm chores and spend a lot of time in Low range. starts and runs great so all is good, just sucks up fuel. hard to believe 600 cc's can go through twice as much fuel as my 5700 cc pick up...

Dang!!! Last weekend I took the family out on a trail ride...it was a lot of mixed low range crawling and slow speed high range...under 20 mph...we went 32 miles...and I used about 2 gallons...so...a good estimate for mpg for my 700 efi is 16 on the trail. I've gotten 27 mpg out of a tank when riding on dirt and paved roads averaging around 35 mph.
That's my consumption lows and highs.

oh sure, rub it in, thanks I almost always have a trailer behind me so that probably doesn't help either, I just have a thirsty one. wonder what I would get out of a tank with trail miles and High range? that would be the real test.

My 03 600 Sportsman is a keeper. It's a very capable quad and responds well to performance mods. I was starting to think that I got a "factory freak" because I read alot of Polaris bashing and was waiting for something to happen but it aways got me home and never failed to impress me. Since new!
She's a heavy one, but I think that works to my advatadge in the rocky/boggy New England backwoods and it runs well in the snow too. I've owned some other brands and have never ridden a quad that will "float" on snow or mud anyways.
