Rear Winch Mount
#1
OK........so me and the wife go riding today. Got new EFI's, winches etc. We are ready!!!
Then I find 18" rotten snow on the trail AFTER I am on it and sink! No trees ahead of me, no trail left ahead to ride to without 18" of rotten snow.....................long story short; going nowhere. Had I had a rear mounted winch I could have got out in 5 minutes.
Anyone out there have any knowledge of anyone making rear mounts for winches or perhaps complete kits for the Polaris big twin Sportsmans?
Thanks in advance for any info you can provide..

I believe Montana Jacks has a system that allows you to use winch from front and rear.

I did alot of research before I made mine. Basically what I did is, remove the rear cargo box, fabricate a mount using the same holes as the multi mount bracket would have used, and bought the MV 7 dual winch toggle switch. I avoided using the rear bumper, because it is very light weight and would bend under a serious load. My winch is tucked up neatly on top of the frame and out of the way until I need it. I did this so, if I get rear ended, the bumper takes the blow, not the winch. I can still reach the cam activator with out getting off my butt, That makes it nice! LOL!!!!!! I have no pics uploaded yet, but will email them to you if you would like.

Check out my pics and you can see what I did on my 500 and will soon do on my 700. You will have to remove your storage box, but I believe it is the best way. Or you could invert the install and mount the winch upside down.

This looks like a great way to go...............have you used the winch in the rear under heavy stress yet? I was wondering if the frame is actually heavy and strong enough for this? I use my storage box for nothing right now so if this works it looks like a winner!

Yeah, I used my rear winch a good bit also, and I never thought the frame had any problem with the load. That frame is alot thicker than you think. I almost ruined a drill trying to drill through it. Yeah a drill not a drill bit. I went through two almost three drill bits. The frame is very strong. Don't worry about it. If I can help you with your install, please let me know. PM me or email me at brock.b.wallace@sprint.com .
