Default Hawkeye 2X4 for the Wife

I was at the dealer today looking into some sand tires, and they had a Hawkeye out front. My wife was immediately drawn to the red plastics, as that's her first requirement for a quad. Anyway, she also found it very comfortable and a good fit.

Couple of questions for those in the know...who has one, or rides with one, and how is it performing? Also, for those that bought, about what was the OTD price? Understand, my wife is really just going to putt around and do some trail riding, and even then, nothing too crazy.

Thanks for any input...

ive drivin one, on the demo thing, there great quads, very sporty and comfortable. ive heard there holding up very well, and the transmitions are great. i was reading a review were the guy took the 22's off and put on ITP 25" mudlite XTR's and said it performed flawlessly and didnt have any clutch slippage and he coudlent tell any smoking or anything. as far as i know, its a fantastic quad. i would get a 4x4 though, its a little more, but its just that more usefull when in a tight spot.

it s a great quad my wife is also getting one someday its very sporty feeling with very light handeling. as far as the 25's the belt wont slip because it is a three clutch setup there is a wet clutch in the motor that will Disengage before the belt slips that is also why there is no low range on this quad. i hear if it works well we may see this setup on sportsmans in the future..

that'd be fantastic preventative maintnance on the sportsmans. Pro-IRS and that would make it sweet

the sportsmans are getting redesigned for 2007 i hear. the 2005 redesign was cosmetic, this is mechanical, APARENTLY now i say aparently dont quote me, the frames are being redone with a tubular hybrid stainless steel aluminum thing. removing the struts for double A arms, and suposedly polaris is ditching Sachs and pulling Fox into production for the shocks.

now that would be sweeet

I was all set to pick up a red 2x4 12/30, dealer had to get the machine from another dealer and they had a little problem unloading it. Rolled it off the truck (sigh) I bought a 4x4 instead with the agreement of swapping plastics when they get them for the damaged unit. The 2wd I could have got for 3725.00 plus tax, the 4x4 I got for 4425.00 plus tax, title. I've put just 1 1/2 hours on it so far but I really like the machine, with a simple mod the throttle response is much better now. The pvt works great, you can crawl along at a snails pace, engagement is very smooth and right off idle. The tires are the only thing I don't care for but that's easily corrected. If you ride in any loose terrain I would get the 4x4, I'm now glad I did. I rode in a few inches wet snow and in 2wd it would spin to a stop till traction was found again so 4wd came in handy. Quality seems to be very good, everything fits very well and there are no strange noises from the PVT or anything for that matter. I hope the PVT system makes it to the Sportsmans, that would eliminate the noises they have. The ESC has been extended so if anyone's thinking of buying I'd get on it, great quad......

Good info there powerslider...what was the simple mod you did to improve throttle response? I also asked my dealer about the ESC and he said it ended on Jan 1st. Funny thing is, it's up on the Polaris web site still with the no/no/no and ESC promotion. Gonna have to take that into the dealer and educate them......sometimes they ain't too smart.

I'm also thinking now that I'll go with the 4X4 version if I can find it in the red plastics. Seems to make more sense, especially if I also use it as my hunting quad instead of the Predator... I haven't cleared that one with the wife yet though...LOL
