scrambler with 4 low

Default scrambler with 4 low

ok so today i rode a 2001 xplorer 400 and i noticed that it has 4 low. i have a 02 scrambler would i be able to swap the gear box for one out of an explorer and get the same thing. as far as i could tell they were the same motor. any one tried this. any input would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Yea. People do it. Not many have though. I dont think theres much of a problem doing this, other than, a few linkage issues. You see one of these trannies on ebay once in a while. They usually bring big bucks.
You may try a search, theres a few threads on this rite here.

thanks for the reply whitedog. as far as linkage problems, are you talking about the shift linkage also do you know what parts i would have to buy. im thinking i would just have to buy the gear box. thanks

Yep, i think just the gearbox and the shifter linkages, and shift box.

i did it to my 99 scrambler the only problems i had were the shift rods you can use a 12mm box end wrench and make it a lever i welded some up out of aluminum works great great with bigger tires or that extra grunt when you need it also you will need to block off one wire connetor of trans excellent buy one off ebay i got mine for around 200 a few years ago ask any questions would love to help

hey thanks for the info scramin. im looking to do it this spring but i might have some questions when i dive into it more. so did you just buy the shift rods from an xplorer and everything bolted up?

could not find a set of shift rods reasonable so i made some levers that go right under the black heat shield you can barley see them and you can just reach down and grab it also you can use 12mm box end wrench will fit nicley in there i will try and put up some pics
