400L Maintenance
By FAR the most important fluid to check and change in your 400L is the counterbalancer oil.
Many of these tend to loose a little of this oil or get water inside.
If this happens and you keep riding you WILL destroy the engine and many times to the point where it can't be rebuilt without spending a fortune.
It is no problem to rebuid a 400L engine and it is not too expensive as long as the counterbalancer does not come apart and destroy everything.
The good news is the counterbalancer almost never gives a problem as long as there is good clean oil in there.
So check it weekly if you ride a lot and change it if it looks bad.

Counter balancer....
Take off the seat and look down the right side along side the airbox, its behind the recoil and has a large **** with a large slot for a Looong screwdriver or a slotted Tire iron (that's what I use). It's a dipstick that screws in and out.
The drain plug for the 400 transmission...
From the back, look on the left side of the tranny. There is a bolt from the frame to the tranny, loosen the jam nut, screw in the long bolt and then you can remove the drain plug.
