Which GPS for atving?

jeff; most handheld gps have such small screens and my eyes are not what they once were, it is easier for me to tell the differenc between items of different color on a screen than it is different shades of grey. look at a road map and think what it would look like if it was all different
shades of black or grey. my first tv was black and white, then came color, i dont want to go back to b/w. one day all gps will be color but for now they can charge $100 extra for it.. knowing that i will be using it a lot i think it will be worth the $$$
speaking of garmin.. the joy stick went out on my legend after 20 months. garmin web s showed a $99 repair charge. i called for a return autho. # was told to send it back. they overhauled it and returned it free of charge.

Hey Dobbertwo, My eyes also need big screen and plenty of light for reading. When my parents went through this transition, I thought it was their age. Now I know it is hereditary. Good reasons for only $100
I will get color for easier definitions. Thankyou again, jlewis Plus also larger screen and I will take said Gps outside and view in the sunlight. Everone who responded has helped me lots.THANKS!!!

May I suggest the garmin 60cs. It is a great unit with a color screen and 56 meg of memory which will hold a lot of topo and street maps. It is also waterproof. It has an altimeter and a built in magnetiic compass which allows the compass to be accurate when you are stopped. It is also perfect for navigating in the car and for geocaching I have mine mounted on my 800 with Garmins handlebar mount which it slips right out of to put into my car mount. Tracking is an excellent feature which lays a line down on your map so if you get lost you can just follow it back to camp or where ever. It holds 1000 waypoints also.

I also have the Etrex Legend. Nice handheld unit, but for an atv the buttons are small and on the sides for just holding it. The screen can be hard to read because of the size, but it works great besides those issues.

Budman and Cuddy, I am going to buy the Garmin 60c os 60cs. I looked at the Etrex Legend and also was concerned about the side buttons. I wear gloves most of the time. I can push a button but I don't think I could find the right side button. The 60c is color, larger screen, Garmin electronics and from all I have learned this model is ideal for off roading and highway travel. I am unsure of the cost but think it is around $350. That seems fair. Also geocaching is something I know I will look into. I also believe this machine has a lot of off road mapping built in. I will start here. Thanks for the info, jlewis
