Default SP700 Axles

Heh Everybody, New to this site and also new to the four wheeler world, I just bought a 2003 SP700 Mossy Oak it has 1200km's. I live in Ontaio Canada so I thought it would be a good idea to buy one. The question i have is both the front and rear axles at the differential have alot of play I mean alot of play like 3/4" up down side to side. Is this something I should worry about or is this normal. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreceiated.

Thanks Dave

Welcome to the forum!

It’s hard to imagine how you could have that much play in the rear axles. The part of the rear axle assembly that attaches at the transfer case is a black cylinder. This is part of the inner CV joint. The cylinder is like a cup that the CV bearings ride in. There’s a splined stub with a spring loaded lock ring on the “bottom” of this cup that locks into the transfer case workings. The inside walls of the cup have big round “grooves” that allow the CV joint bearing cage to move horizontally in and out inside the cup as the suspension goes up and down. Between the inner CV joint and the outer CV joint is an axle. You should not be able to move the cup or the axle or the outer CV ¾” in any direction. Except for some minor play, the only movement that should be going on back there is rotation.

Thanks for the reply, your right the rear is not as bad as the front, its the front axles that really worry me those little stub that come out of the diff are the ones that move 3/4" in any direction. I have had a couple of polaris techs tell me that it needs u joints but I have checked them and they are moving and don't have any play it's right at the diff where all the play is.
