I was set on the 700 to buy until I drove it this afternoon at the dealer. Ride was good, comfort was good, everything was good except every thing on that thing rattled like hell. I never had that happen to me with a Honda. I'm buying a Rincon.

Hey tgravo2,
I know what your talking about. I'm trying to sell my Scrambler and I'm having a hard time. I hate to start the thing up when someone looks to buy it. It's got a nasty knock when it idle's. It sounds like a rod knock, but it isn't. The primary clutch wear's out and there is nothing you can do about it except replace the whole unit and that can be costly. I'm on my second primary clutch and it's worn out too. I only have 4,000 mile's on it. So I have to deal with it because I'm not giving Polaris any more money.

We have 2, 2005 SP 400's.
#1. Recall on it and throttle cable binding problems.
#2. Carb problems resulting in it being re jetted and it still doesn't run right. #1 runs fine at altitude, #2 bogs out. EBS cuts out occasionally.
My biggest peeve is that I can't find a dealer that gives a **** about customer service.

She could barely walk after a 20 mile ride on a 400ex. My buddie suggested trying his 700 Sportsman. We ended up buying a new 2004.5 Sportsman 500. Now she can ride 80 miles a day and not have back pain. The suspension is great, its got 1200 miles on it without any real problems. A rubbed thru throttle cable and normal fluid and filter changes. After owning one I would buy another, they are damn good quads. (and the sleds arnt bad either)[/

Hey wayout,
If you like Polaris, then you can cuss. If you don't like Polaris, you can't cuss. I almost got kicked off for calling this site Polaris Connection Magazine one day. If you have anything negative to say about Polaris, some of the Polaris guy's will rat you out to the moderator. You have to watch your P's & Q's so you can get your message out. If you don't, then your post's will start dissappearing. Take it from someone who know's.

yup, this is definately not an "open" forum. they prefer we stick to the basics and not talk about how the companies do business. every manufacturer builds machines with problems, just seems that Polaris lets too many simple things slip past quality control. that's what discourages me the most, it's almost like they are thinking, "Just slap the machine together, as long as it looks good and has an EFI sticker on it people will buy it, then it's their problem if it breaks". that's the impression I am left with and that is no way to build a following of loyal customers!

Just wondering if Gunman457 will feel the same way about his KAW when it is 5 years old, has 4,000+ miles on it and starts requiring more maintenance and repairs. No one ever seems to want to discuss how their own riding habits and preventive maintenance (or lack of) play into how well a machine performs. I have worked in the motorcycle,ATV and power equipment business for over 20 years. (Now a full time firefighter and work for a power equipment dealer part time.) I can agree that there are some shoddy dealers and some even sorrier mechanics/service technicians who can ruin an unknowing customers perception of an otherwise fantastic piece of equipment just because they are too lazy to train and seek out the information needed to satisfy a customers complaint. I am glad (proud?) to be an American where we have freedom to voice our opinions. I am saddened by how lazy, greedy and blameless we've become in America also. Seems that every bad thing that happens is always someone else's fault and never our own. I worked for a Honda motorcycle/ATV dealership for over ten years. I've owned all different kinds and brands of bikes and ATVs over the years; They all had their good and bad points. Some dealers were great to work with and some were jerks. I consider myself lucky and blessed to be able to handle most of my own repairs myself. The biggest majority of dealerships I have dealt with leave alot to be desired in their service departments. So, does Polaris have quality problems, or are the customers or dealers creating problems thru their own neglect? Ford vs Chevy? Look at where both companies are headed now. Do the Japanese/overseas companies make mistakes and have quality issues also? You better believe they do. There are new service bulletins being issued every day or so concerning quality or safety issues. Most or all can be resolved if we are willing to research the problem and ask ourselves the tough questions of "who, what, when, where and how the responsibility for the problem should be dealt with. What I,m saying here is you can keep on whining about the problems you,ve had with a certain brand or dealer etc. or you can use your time and energy to find a resolution to your problem and maybe help yourself or someone else in the process. In closing and I would like to say thanks to all who contribute to this forum. It is a good source of info as long as you take the time to go back and reseach all the threads concerning the topic you,re interested in, rather than just taking the advise from one or two daily replies at times. I just purchased a new "06" SP700EFI . I own a Honda streetbike and two Honda dirtbikes. Just passed an "00"SP500 down to my son. Will I be sorry I bought a Polaris if I have problems with it? I doubt it. I'll just do my best to resolve the problem, hope my dealer will be fair in helping me if I need his help.(or he will no longer be my dealer) and post how the problem was resolved here to help others, (as so many of you have done) and do it without bashing over and over as some have done. Thanks again to those of you who have made "real" contributions to this forum.

10/4 fireslayer. could not had said it any better myself. I've got a 500 scram with 20,000 miles+++. speedo broke and I ain't fixing again. I have had some problems, but the majority has been from my lack of care. I've been working on Polaris for 8 years now and like you, you can tell when its a rider or desgn flaw. Sometimes both. I love my machine and I'll keep riding and patching until I can afford a new one.
