K&N oil filter on 800
xler8ion,
I wrote K&N:K&N' web site does not list a filter for a Polaris 2005 Sportsman 800 EFI , but if you cross a Wix 51536 it comes up a K&N -HP 1010
The Polaris part number is:2540086
Can you help?
This is what came back:
Dear Don,
Unfortunately the part number that you have given does not cross over to anything in our system. The filter for your ATV is still in testing and development. If you have any further questions feel free to give us a call at 1-800-858-3333.
Thank you for writing.

K&N oil filter on 800
DSLKSL,
Thanks for the response and info. I talked to the tech at K&N who you referenced who confirmed that the 196 and/or 1010 would not work on the 800's but could not tell me why or when the new ones would be available. I did further research and have found that from 02-04 polaris used the 2540006 filter on both the 600-700 models but changed to the 2540086 depending on build date ( this is from the pdf parts manuals downloadable on their website). The 800's as we know only take the 2540086 filter. The 2540006 filter crosses to the Napa 1357/Wix 51357 and as we know the 2540086 filter crosses to the Napa 1356/Wix 51356. These two filters have the exact same specifications except in two categories. The 1357/51357 has a bypass psi of 8 and a burst pressure of 280 psi. The 1356/51356 has a bypass psi of 8-11 and a burst pressure of 363 psi. I have to assume that these internal differences were an issue at some point in time to Polaris i.e around 04. The 196 and 1010 K&N also appear to be dimensionally the same but with the internal spec of the 1357, not the 1356 hence the conclusion it won't work. Anyway its looks like the Napa and Wix 1356/51356 are the only aftermarket ones we get as for now even though in a pinch the 1357/51357 and the K&N may physically work but the internal diffs must be present for a reason.
