Default cv joint boots

I've just broken my 2nd stock rear axle boot on my 05 700, and am ready to upgrade to avoid any further failures. Which product have you all found is the strongest and/or easiest to install? Does anyone besides Gorilla make anything similar to their thermoplastic boot? I've heard that they can be difficult to install and don't always fit right. Thanks for any advice.

Try Polaris part number 2202629. This is a rubber boot that last a lot longer than the stock boot. Better material and better design.

That’s interesting, I didn’t know Polaris offered a better boot. Will have to check that out.

I sell and install Gorilla boots and they’re the best I know of. The only “fit issue” on your machines is the front outer. I don’t use ‘em in that application because it requires you grind away part of the lower strut housing for clearance. They work out great everywhere else. I went through four stock boots in two rides (on two ’05 700s) when our machines were new. I’ve yet to split a Gorilla boot and they aren’t that much more expensive than stock.

Thanks, guys. I do believe I'll switch all my rears over to Gorilla. Floodrunner, I've changed the stock boots, is there any tricks to the Gorillas I should know about? clamps?

The Gorilla boots use a completely different clamp than stock. I like it better but to do it right you really ought to have the special tool. The CV Man on Ebay sells a couple different varieties of this tool. I both the professional one for around $40 I think, there’s a cheaper one. It comes with an assortment of clamps. I don’t exactly remember but I’m pretty sure the stock clamps won’t work because the boot material is thicker. Other than that it's the same proceedure as stock.

You’re welcome. I checked on that part number Gup provided. My dealer couldn’t come up with a description other than “CV boot” and a price of $32. Don’t know if it’s for front or rear. Gorilla Boots list for $44.99, I sell the kits for $35 + shipping.

Well, I've heard that it's a persistant problem on the 05s. never broke one on my 04. The first one that went on my 05 I think was from a sharp piece of rock from a riverbed, but the one I have now appears to be just a small hole or could be a split. I just want to solve the problem with the most rugged part available so I don't have to wory about it anymore.

Floodrunner, are your kits the thermo-plastic boot? do you sell the clamp tool too? if so, maybe you could give me a price on the 4 rear boots, clamp tool and shipping out to Mass.?

Thanks,
Steve
