UPDATED: Predator HELP!?! carb hesitation...
#1
hey guys,
Was wonderring if anyone could tell me why my '05 pred LE could have a low-mid hesitation to it. I just got it back from yet another "service". (rebuild number 2, see other posts...) Anyway, it was running great, then the dealer powerwashed it last night, and as of this morning right before it hits the midrange, it chokes and coughs a time or two. sorta like an old two-stroke that is not jetted right. it's not consistant, as in sometimes it does, some times it doesn't. he check the spark plug to be sure it wasn't fouled. Just wondering if anyone has any clue what this is? I only got about 15 min on it before i had to goto work so whatever it is it didn't really have any time to work the problem out... is there water in the carb? maybe in a wire? or is it something else...
Another question: a few months ago, my friend with his '05 TLE was taking off in the snow. he was slipping his clutch out and his chain snapped. then while the dealer was testing my machine today (to see if it was still choking,) mine broke. they replaced both chains for free, but my other question is do preds have a problem with chain breakage? (these are both 6 month old 05s,) was this strange, or should i plan on replacing a chain every 6 months? thanks for any info.

sounds like a jetting thing. as far as the chain snapping, i find that realllly weird. my predator does the exact same thing in the powerband untill the engine is running at peak tempature, then its perfect

Thought about that, and there are 2 things make me think it's not jetting:
1) how could it be jetting if nothing flow air flow / exhaust related has changed?
2) Why did it not do it until after it was powerwashed
Also, spyder6, does your ride actually like pop and try to stall at the low-mid rpm until it's warm? if that's pretty nuts, never seen that on a pred before, hope nothing's wrong w/ yours... thanks for the info tho.

well bad news... after leaving it to sit over night... well, it's back at the shop... at anything less than full throttle the machine acts like it has the reverse rev limitter. it cracks, popps, and won't go more than a thousand or so above idle. so i got mad and took it to the dealer, where they diagnosed the problem.
the latest failure is: (drumroll please) the stator! that's right, the stator. it just doesn't produce spark anymore at some rpms. awful nice of it. oh well. new stator should come in about the time the Pure polaris K&N filter does... so should be back to full throttle running by next week... the only question is... for how long.
