Default newbie help please. scramber 2x4

Hi I just picked up a 2x4 scrambler at an auction they said it was a 2000 model bran new just out of the crate. I looked it over and dont know how to tell what year it is.
Its got the auto transmission and i opened the oil resivoir and its never had anything in it. Looks like shipping oil only. If it is a 2000 and just never sold do I have to drain the tranny and so on and fill it with new stuff. My boyfriend has dirt bikes but doesnt know to much about atv's and i didnt get a manual so am clueless about the oil i should use for the 2 stroke engine and the automatic transmission not even sure if it needs premium gas. Can any one help with any of this info and what about break in procedure ? .. thanks guys

I can tell you its a 2 stroke 400cc quad. LOTS of power. You got it new your lucky because they dont make them anymore because of the 2 stroke. I would change the tranny oil. Use the polaris tranny oil and the Polaris gold 2 stroke oil. It has a nice sweet smell to it and its better. As for gas it takes regular 87 octane. Once you get it running break it in hard. The 400 has alot of power so be careful. It will come up on you pretty easy.

Hi and thanks for your advice. He wasnt able to locate the serial number so we aint sure what year it is but he said he would go to a dealer and get the tranny oil you recommended. I'm kinda a little scared now that you said its got lots of power, maybe to much for a girl ?

Its not bad but if you get on it hard it will come up. Just be careful going up hills, lean forward and dont hit the throttle too hard. It will take some time to get used to. It is a very nice quad with lots of snot when you need it. The automatic is great because you are always in the right gear and it makes a day of riding very easy. Good luck, be safe and most of all have fun.

Find the VIN number. The tenth digit is the year. I.E. if the 10th digit is a 6 then its a 2006 or a 5 its a 2005 but if its a letter then......................well just match up the letter or the number below and thats the year.

V=1997
W=1998
X=1999
Z=2000
1=2001
2=2002
3=2003
4=2004
5=2005
6=2006

Vin number is going to be on the frame just behind the front left wheel or just in front of the front left fender. Oh and how much did yah get that for. Its a awsome machine. I believe that back then it had the FOX struts. NICE..................
