Default Dial a Jet Kit's

Being from the flatlands of Kansas does sometimes have it's advantages, but going to the mountains in Colorado and Utah is not one of them. My 700EFI is NO problem but the Mrs. 400sportsman seems to need jetting everytime we go. Have any of you folks out there in ATV land tried the "Dial=a=jet kit's" If so, can you give me a little info on how they work for you and how hard was it to install. It almost sounds to good to be true.

Thanks,

Default Dial a Jet Kit's

I have a Dial-a-jet........but I have not installed it. My 2004.5 SP 400 was too rich (factory 172.5 jet was too too rich). I figured I'll re-jet with a 167.5 jet and if that does the trick then I won't need to fuss with the Dial-a-jet.

Well the 167.5 jet was perfect and it worked well even when I went to altidudes of about 3500 ft . Never went higher so I don't know beyond that. The 400s were set at the factory WAY too rich. Even the 06 450 has a smaller main jet (170 I think) than my 04 400 came with. Try jetting it with the 167.5 and that should be good for everything except the real high stuff. I decided to hang on to the Dial-a-jet just in case I need it down the road sometime.

Sorry I may not be of much info on the Dial-a-jet.......but figured I would pass on my experience of jetting the 400.

Default Dial a Jet Kit's

I had no luck with mine, I had a post on here about a yr ago, It keep blowing fuel out the vent hole at all times, They told me it was the quad, had me to do a bunch of tests and send different neddles just blew fuel out, all they would do was refund it minus shipping (that was sorry to me) I think a FULL refund would have been better, any way I don't recommend them, Just no luck on my 02 Sp500 HO. Good luck is all im saying. I think in my pics you well see it installed at that time on mine. Basically it just sucks fuel from the carb. bowl into the intake tube between the air box and carb. You have to go down 1 to 2 jet sizes for it to work. It is adjustable but like I said it just blew fuel out the vent on it and made it a BIG FIRE HAZARD.

I want to thank you for the information you sent on the dial-a-jet. I agree that the factory jet is a little to rich. The problem we have is that in Colorado we go up to altitudes of 12,500 ft. Needless to say the air is a bit thin, and the re-jet works, but as yet I have not worked up the courage to try rejetting myself, I get tired of the hassel of having it rejetted prior t our trip and again when we come home. They hit me with a healthy shop fee for the service.

The best bet it seems is just to learn how to do the rejetting myself. Anyway, Thanks for sharing your info.

Sounds to me that a full refund would have been the correct thing for the Co. to do. After all if their product "wont" work they can play the blame game all day, but the bottom line is it just didn't work for you.

I think on any new product like this they should work with you, until your happy.

I do appreciate your input and hope your finding lot's of cool trails to follow.

I put a Dial-a-Jet on my Trailblazer 250 to help dial it in after putting an HSP pipe on it. It's really simple to install, took me maybe 30 minutes tops. I would recommend doing the "Pro" install, where you mount the DAJ on the carb body. The only drawback is that you're drilling into the carb, so if you remove the DAJ, you have a hole to plug.

As far as the difference in performance, the quad does seem to run smoother. I've run one scarmbles with it, and the throttle response was better. I'm going to try it with the TMX 35mm Flatslide I bought. So far haven't been able to get it jetted right, so I'm hoping the DAJ will help.

Just a tip: if you decide to buy one, it may be cheaper to order from HSP, but you get great support dealing with Thunder Products directly. If you talk to Ann, she'll floor you with how knowledgable she is about carbs and fuel mixtures.

Happy trails!

Actually wheatgerm the dial a jet is not a new product it has been tried tested and true since the seventies. Don't let one guy's bad luck change your mind .I know lot's of people using it and loving every bit of extras that it give ya . Besides i seen his pics and the dial a jet may have worked a little better for him if he would have mounted it on the top of the carb boot instead of on the side.

a dial-a-jet is a very good tuning tool, if used and installed as directed. remember for this to work properly you MUST have a slightly lean condition to begin with...

I had it on the top at 1 time, just because the pic that I had is showing it on the side doesn't mean I didn't try it. I spent 3 days doing what the man at the company said to do, everything I tried didn't stop it from blowing out. I spent more time testing my quad and doing what he wanted me to try, even though I knew it was a DIAL A JUNK. Here is one of the posts I did of it.

http://forums.atvconnection.com/mess...dial%20a%20jet

Whether it was the quad (which I dought due to it still runs like it did new) or the dial a jet kit (more like it), I just won't recommed it. Im sure there are people that don't have any problems or they wouldn't be selling them still. But like I said a Full refund what have made me happy after all that I did.
