gas cap in the way

Default gas cap in the way

i have a 2000 sportsman, when im riding and take a sharp right the key hits the gas cap and shuts the machine down. makes for good times going down a step winding hill. is there anything i can do? can i reposition the ignition?

that used to happen to me when i had a key chain or anything esle beside the key only. now i just use the key so not to have it hit and shut off.

I just use the ignition key by itself but I also have it connected to one of those rubber coiled keychains that I hook to the handlebar just incase for some reason the key comes loose,which shouldn't happen, but it's just an extra precaution that I take.....

thanks guys, but im just using the key alone and it's still hitting the cap. i will try to adjust the ignition box to see if i can free up some space?

This may be a stupid ? but is the cap tighting down all the way? Mine does the same thing but its due do a key chain. Be sure all the screws are in the pod.

it has'nt been rolled. not to hard[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif[/img] and the gas cap is tight first thing i checked.

this happened to me and i found that the bottom part of the headlight pod was sagging a little. if you will make sure all 3 of the screws that hold the top and bottom together are there that will help. if that doesn't fix it, i loosened the 2 handlebar bolts that are inside the pod and picked up on the bars a little to raise it up. good luck
