I am trying to replace the rear u joint on my 2000 Xpedition 425. My question is do you have to remove the rear gearcase? I am also going to replace the front propshaft u joints too, same question here for the front gearcase?

the front shaft will just pop out with the hub removed and the lower a arm disconnected (dropped) from the btm of the strut housing.

not sure on the rear.

I meant to say the front propshaft out of the front of the engine, sorry about that.
