I recommend a complete tear down and replace the crank bearings. I did the top end on mine and went 2 days then the flywheel hit the magneato and shattered the magnets. All because I tried to save time. The bearings were bad and had enough play to do that. $40 dollars at the time would have saved $300 after going back and doing it all over. Not to mention the time it took to go and do it all again. I recommend getting the bearings at a parts store or a bearing type store. Will save you half what it costs at a dealer.

Something else comes to mind if its oil injected. Check and be sure the gear for the oil pump in the motor dosent have much play. Nothing worse than running a week and the motor locks up. Happen once to me. Had to premix from then on. But do this and its a very good idea. Put 1 tea cup of 2 stroke oil in a full tank of gas to help break in. Run it kinda hard and vary the rpms for at least the first run, about 15 mins. Let it cool down then run it again like that, should be good to go.
Check motor mounts be sure thay havent lost there flexabilty or have any cracks. If you have any questions ask on here or ask a dealer for help. Most places will help if you are buying the parts from them. Dont be afraid to ask questions.

Thanks for all the info ! I guess i should have said that all i was taking apart was the top end (the head and jug) i had a cracked piston ring. After tearing it apart i am missing a piece of the piston ring and i can't find it anywhere so i think it might have fell down into the bottom end so i am going to have to split the case and find that piece so you would recomend puting new bearings in? Antone have any idea what a shop would charge to spit the case for me?

It may have blowed on out. But it could have got into the bottom end. I don't know what a shop charges, I did my own, if you don't feel comfortable about it its better to have some1 else to it.

You will need a gear pullery to remove the flywheel. You can use a harmoic puller on some of them, but it depends on the flywheel. You will also need a torque wrench and the torque specs on the motor.
