Default Tire Performance in snow

I am going on a ride on Sunday and there will probably be alot of snow there. I currently have Maxxis Bighorns mounted on my SP 500 but I was wondering if my old stock Carsile Badlands would be better in the snow. I am thinking that the Bighorns might dig really fast. Which would be better to mount on there.

Thanks

Ty

Ty,
I have 26" Bighorns on my 700, and they do extremely well in the snow. Give em a try.

I beleive that the increased surface area of a radial tire improves snow performance, are the badlands radials? if both are radials i would use whichever appears more aggressive.

I'm pretty sure the skinnier the tires, the better you go in the snow.

When I used the Badlands on my 04 700 EFI they worked really well in the snow. In my opinion must better then the old style Mudlights. I have Mudlight XTR's on my 06 700 EFI and they do well also.

A friend of mine has had both types of tires, and he told me the Badlands had better traction in snow. Whichever one you go with, don't forget to lower the air pressure.....like 2-3 psi. I personally have the Holeshots ATRs that have a tread pattern more like the Badlands than the Bighorns and they have great snow traction. The only time I've been stuck in the snow is when the drifts were over the tops of the rims and the front suspension was "snowplowing" and piling the snow up in front of me. Have fun!

......so I just heard from someone else who claims the Bighorns outperform the Badlands in snow. I'm guessing you'll have to figure out what works best for you, your riding style and snow conditions.

Don't you want wider=more floatation?

ITP Atr Holeshots are THE best snow tire hands down! Although I'd like to try some maxxis 4-snows..

with the lugs on the tires yes wider is better... i think jayri is thinking hard terrain tires/road tires
