Default Scrambler choking

I just bought an 03 scrambler 500. When starting naturally you have to pull the choke out to get it to start. However the idle speed does not match the choke setting. It is way to rich for the idle speed. You can keep it running by using the throttle. It will smoke from the over rich fuel at this point. It will idle fine after it warms up. My wifes old 300 bayou will respond with idle speed and choke properly. One hand operation , no blipping of the throttle needed. This atv has a HSP clutch kit, pipe ,fmf megamax, air box mod and jet kit. I posted the 500 knocking on both 500's i bought off of ebay. Thanks for all the replies and putting me at ease about the tapping noise. This machine is awsome. Does anyone know how to make it idle up when choking.

Check your valves sounds like you may have a tight exhaust valve.

Not the valves. Adjusted/checked my self. Actually they did not need any adjustment they where at .007and.006. The other 2002 scrambler 500 that I bought does the same thing. I think that enrichens the fuel via secondary carb slide/plunger. Is there any mechanical movement of the throttle. Is the jet kit or float level resonsible. Is there a way to adjust the choke idle or is it a live with thing.

Do you know what type of airbox mod you have?THe CV carb needs a certin amount of vacum to operate.
My 500 doesnt rev up with the choke on either just stays running until it is warm enought to run without the choke.Once you see how these act and work you will see they are pretty trouble free machines.

Could you do me a favor and count how many discs are in your muffler? Thanks a bunch

I just got an FMF mega max for my scrambler and was wondering what everybody else is running so far as how many discs on the outlet of the silencer... if you could count the individual discs held on by the 6 screws that are bolted to the back of the muffler Id greatly appreciate it.

it looks like 6 or 7 discs. Does your choke and idle speed work properly.
