measuring piston-to-bore clearance on 400
Rick-
I went back to the snowmobile shop yesterday morning and had the guy re-measure the cylinder. I watched him and it came out to 3.3075. That was checked with a bore guage. He further went to use feeler guages to measure the bore. A .003" feeler guage would not hold the piston in the bore, but a .004" feeler guage would hold the piston. I am confident the cylinder was bored to specs. My local Polaris dealer had a 40 over Wiseco on hand and sold me the rings for it. Those rings installed gave me .012" end gap. I filed them down to about .014" end gap and put the engine back together yesterday. I broke it in this morning according to your procedure. This whole problem cound have been avoided had I stopped to think a little bit.

I know you have nothing but good intentions. I truly do appreciate the help you have to offer. I will definitely have my future engine work done by you. If you are this helpful with work that you didn't even do, I can only imagine what you'd do for your own work. It is hard to show my appreciation by typing, but I truly thank you for your advice.
