Of course its a matter of taste and the area in which you live. A Sportsman is perfect for my needs. If I lived in wide open fields/ desert/ or tundra, I'd probably have a sporter/shifter. Try pulling a boat out of the water, or pull firewood from the forest and you would understand the need for a Sportsman, "Beast".

Default 800 EFI- Is it worth the $$$

UPDATE. Ive gone ahead and made a deal for a 2006 800 EFI. I'll pick it up after I return from a vacation in Florida, March 21st. I want to thank all of you for the great info you have provided to me. It has helped me in this decision. Ive asked a few other questions on different posts here also. I expect you will see me on here more when I return. Ive one more quick question; During normal riding, what are you folks getting for fuel mileage? Ive heard horror stories and would like to know before I buy a rear rack that will or will not hold gas cans. Can anyone advise me on this? Thanks. Will

Hi Steve. I'd be interested where you saw this gas pac offered. Is it part of the passenger rear backrest/cargo box?

Thanks Steve. That gas pac looks like a good idea. I would be putting a passenger box on back though. Probably there are gas pacs to fit the front rack too?

I did the same thing...I found a really good price and went to my local dealer to see what he will do and he quoted me full retail, Then I showed him my price that I got from another dealer and he tried to feed me a line that it was bs and that dealer could not sell it for that price.

That sounds familiar.......

When the 800 first came out, every dealer in central MA was asking over 9K out the door!!! NOBODY would budge. I went out in western MA and got mine for $8816 OTD, sales tax and all. That was in January of '05. Got a free Garmin GPS too. That was the best I could find at the time.

I HATE dealerships. I have never found one that put me before my cash. I work on everything myself, and when you mention that , they try to weasel in some extra charges....'cause they know they're not going to make huge profits off you for repairs/maintenance. I buy everything online. To hell with them. Greedy bastards.

EXCEPT that one that cut me a deal in western MA -- he was willing to negotiate in a resonable manner, while the others wouldn't move. My local dealer evidently has enough yuppies who can afford to pay full retail. He doesn't need my business.

I just priced one here in Maine; $7399.00 for an 05 and $7899.00 for an 06. Both would have the 2500 warn winch installed for this price.
Liam, I guess I should have went North instead!! THAT is an absolute SMOKIN' deal!! At least as far as the Northeast goes.

2bears, $6900!?!? Your gonna make me cry!!

$6900 is for a 05 800 not 06 but hey it is new and I don't see a bunch of new gidgits on the 06's so It would not bother me to buy a 05 hold over...
In October they did not have that good of a deal on the 800's BUT they were selling the 05 700's for $5649 ....I could not pass that up so That is what I have and love it.
