Hey Guys~
Sorry, I have a lot of questions tonight! Has anybody had experience with studding their tires? The local lake always has two 1/4 mile strips plowed for ice drags. I saw in the Dennis Kirk magazine studs that screw into the ***** of the tire. Is there a certain number that should be used per tire, and is there any pattern that should be followed? Thanks for any info given!

I knew a guy that ran ice races on a motorcycle. He was the sort that would use ANY excuse to ride/race/modify his bike. Anyway, he put three screws on the small ***** in a 'V' pattern, and if the ***** were big enough, he put 5 screws in an 'X' pattern like a 5 on a set of dice. I don't know what the tread on your tires looks like, but he just screwed them into the top of the lugs and it worked for him. I would say to try spacing them about 1/4 to 3/8 inch apart. That would be my best guess as to how he did it.

Are you putting the screws in stock tires or aftermarket? The stock tires are not worth the time and effort the sidewalls roll over way too easy.
I ice raced for many years with my Warrior it`s a blast. At first I thought how fun can it be to ride in a circle but as I found out it is a lot of fun.
I used the Ice Racing tires from James Lucky with 5/8 screw 1 in each *** this worked very well just like pavement. I will say the ice racing tires are a hard compound and hold the screws well. If you don`t want to buy ice tires you can still do it just don`t go over board with screws as suggested earlier only because they will rip out. With my set up I had about 1100 screws total 350 each rear 200 each front.
Go ahead and try it you can remove the screws for trail riding (a lot of work though) and if you get serious I would buy ice tires.
A little hint compress your suspension and hold it with tie downs poor mans lowering kit it does help a lot with cornering. Don`t forget to tie up the loose ends good for obvious reasons. HTH
